## Synopsis

Matrimonial Chaos (2013) is a Japanese romantic comedy-drama series broadcast on Fuji TV, a single-season run of eleven 45-minute episodes. Ordinary salaryman Hamasaki Mitsuo (Eita Nagayama) works for a company that installs vending machines and spends much of his time grumbling about his marriage to Hoshino Yuka (Machiko Ono), a woman whose temperament is the complete opposite of his. Unsure whether he loves her at all, he is thrown off balance when he meets Kono Akari (Yoko Maki), his ex-girlfriend from university days, who is now married to Uehara Ryo (Go Ayano). The engine of the show is the slow, awkward drift between these couples as old feelings resurface and everyday domestic routines grow strained, rendered in a wry, self-deprecating register. Episodes unfold around dinners, office life, and family encounters rather than grand events, giving the show an intimate, observational texture. Its mix of quiet melancholy and sharp comic timing will appeal to viewers who enjoy adult relationship dramas with a light touch, in the vein of Hiyokko and Hotel Eris. Fans of grounded Japanese marriage stories will find the emotional honesty familiar, while the restrained romance keeps the tone warm and humane throughout.
