## Synopsis

The Secret Squirrel Show (1965-1966) is an American animated comedy series created by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons for NBC. Its half-hour block bundles three short cartoon segments, with the title character Secret Squirrel, a bumbling animal crime fighter voiced by Mel Blanc, taking on villains with the help of gadget supplier Double-Q and his superior Chief Winchley. The engine is simple and repetitive: a secret agent squirrel tries to foil a scheme and his own clumsiness keeps undoing him, while the other segments, Squiddly Diddly and Winsome Witch, offer their own short comic capers. Each segment is a self-contained bit of slapstick, playing like a quick dose of spy parody rather than a continuing story. The show runs a single season of 78 episodes, each about six minutes, and carries the look and pace of classic 1960s television cartoons. Its tone is light, breezy and gently absurd, with a deadpan spoof of secret agent conventions. Fans of Inspector Gadget, Wacky Races and Hong Kong Phooey will find similar kinship in its slapstick energy and animal heroes.
