## Synopsis

Rita (2012-2020) is a Danish dramedy series created by Christian Torpe for TV 2. Mille Dinesen plays Rita Madsen, an independent, outspoken private school teacher whose bond with her students is strong but whose relationships with grown-ups are far rockier. Carsten Bjørnlund, Morten Vang Simonsen, Sara Hjort Ditlevsen and Nikolaj Groth fill out her household and circle, while Lise Baastrup and Ellen Hillingsø add friction and warmth around her. The engine of the show is Rita's struggle to keep her principled, unfiltered approach intact while colleagues, family and friends push back against her. Each episode is built from ordinary school days, staff room tensions and domestic complications, giving the series a steady rhythm of small confrontations and tender moments. Across five seasons of eight episodes each, the show develops as a continuing character story rather than a case of the week. Its tone blends wry comedy with emotional honesty, and it has the warm, human register of a Scandinavian character piece. Fans of Fleabag, Teachers and the observational humor of Borgen will find resonance in its mix of sharp dialogue, awkward social scenes and affectionate portrayal of a flawed but lovable woman.
