## Synopsis

The Legacy (2014-2017) is a Danish family drama series created by Maya Ilsøe for DR1 and Sky Arts. Trine Dyrholm plays Gro, a member of a prosperous family whose matriarch's death opens the door to long-buried secrets, and Jesper Christensen plays Thomas, another central family figure drawn into the dispute. Carsten Bjørnlund as Frederik and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard as Emil add further pressure as relatives who each want a stake in what is left behind. The engine of the series is a prolonged battle over the family inheritance, where every revelation reshapes alliances and loyalties among siblings, spouses and in-laws. Across three seasons and twenty-six episodes, the story moves through the family's private confrontations rather than a single case, so each hour builds on the last. Set in contemporary Denmark, it unfolds in homes, offices and lawyers' rooms where old resentments resurface. The tone is measured, intimate and wry, with a quiet melancholy about inherited expectations and the cost of silence. Fans of Succession, Borgen and Dynasty will find resonance in its portrait of wealth, rivalry and family loyalty.
