## Synopsis

The Spider (2000) is a Danish national-television crime miniseries created by Ole Christian Madsen for DR1. Journalist Hans Christian Vissing (Bent Mejding) is drawn into the dark side of post-war Copenhagen as he tries to uncover a crime syndicate operating on an unprecedented scale. Jakob Cedergren plays Bjarne Madsen and Stine Stengade plays Lisbeth Gordan, both pulled into the investigation's moral tangle, while Lars Mikkelsen appears as Ole Madsen among the principal cast. The engine of the story is the slow accumulation of evidence: every episode is built from interviews, dead ends, and the reporter's uneasy negotiations with people who have much to lose. Told across a single six-episode run of one hour each, it plays as one continuous story rather than a case-of-the-week format. The city is rendered in the austere, rain-dimmed texture of a country still living with the aftermath of war, and the mood stays tense, brooding and paranoid. Fans of The Killing, The Wire and The Bridge will find resonance in its blend of Nordic crime atmosphere, institutional suspicion and a journalist who refuses to look away. It is a compact, grounded piece of Scandinavian crime television that rewards patient viewing.
