## Synopsis

Roar (1997-2000) is an American fantasy adventure series created by Shaun Cassidy and Ron Koslow for FOX. Set in fifth century Ireland, it follows the young Irish warrior Conor (Heath Ledger), who sets out to rid his land of the invading Romans by uniting the quarrelling Celtic clans. Queen Diana (Lisa Zane) and the Roman commander Longinus (Sebastian Roché) add political pressure, while Caitlin (Vera Farmiga) and Fergus (John Saint Ryan) give the hero personal stakes and loyalty to test. The engine of the show is the uneasy work of building alliances among rival tribes, with each episode blending battlefield confrontations, shifting political bargains, and touches of sorcery and mysticism drawn from Celtic myth. The series was a single thirteen-episode season in one continuing storyline, with a sweeping, heroic register and a mythic feel that balances faith, pagan tradition and ancient war. Its tone is earnest and adventurous, with an epic scope. Fans of Merlin, Xena: Warrior Princess and Kingdom of Heaven will find resonance in its blend of historical grit and fantastical quest.
