Audiences rate the single season positively, with its Chicago supernatural detective take on the Dresden novels seen as an engaging, if short-lived, genre entry.

## Synopsis

The Dresden Files (2007) is a single-season American urban fantasy series created by Hans Beimler and Robert Hewitt Wolfe and broadcast on Syfy. Paul Blackthorne plays Harry Dresden, a Chicago wizard who works as a private investigator, taking on cases that ordinary police cannot solve. Lieutenant Connie Murphy (Valerie Cruz) brings him into the grim, supernatural underside of the city, and his allies and contacts, including Bob (Terrence Mann) and Kirmani (Raoul Bhaneja), help shape each investigation. The engine of the show is Dresden's need to solve each case while keeping his own safety and reputation intact in a city where magic is hidden from ordinary people. The twelve episodes are largely self-contained case-of-the-week mysteries, with fights against supernatural threats threaded through a modern Chicago setting. Its tone blends hardboiled detective noir with wry quips and moody city atmosphere, the kind of supernatural mystery that fans of Angel and Supernatural will find familiar. The series was canceled after one season, so its story stops short of a full arc. Set in present-day Chicago, it is a contained, rain-slicked urban fantasy aimed at viewers who enjoy magic-tinged detective work.
