## Synopsis

El Kebeer Awi (2010-2024) is an Egyptian comedy series created by Ahmed Mekky for ON, MBC MASR and MBC Shahid. Ahmed Mekky plays Al Kabeer, an older man who is trying to find love again after the loss of his wife, and the overview suggests that the person he is looking for may be closer than he realises. Around him move Donia Samir Ghanem as Hadia, Mohamed Sallam as Hajras, Hesham Ismail as Fazaa and Husain Abu-Haggag as Ashraf, a crowd of relatives, friends and rivals whose everyday dealings drive most of the comic material. The engine of the show is the gap between Al Kabeer's sincere romantic hopes and the chaos of the family and neighbourhood around him. The series ran across eight seasons, with a concept that expanded to include twins, brotherhood and a wider household, and it has a strong tradition of seasonal programming tied to Ramadan. The tone is warm, sentimental and bright, with broad physical humour and affectionate teasing sitting alongside a quieter melancholy about grief and second chances. Fans of Everybody Loves Raymond and Malcolm in the Middle will recognise the family sitcom energy, and viewers who enjoy regional Arabic comedy will find it resonates with their own traditions.
