## Synopsis

Hello Ladies (2013) is a short-lived American comedy created by Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg and Stephen Merchant for HBO. Stephen Merchant stars as Stuart Pritchard, an awkward, overly confident Englishman trying to date in Los Angeles, where he keeps attempting to infiltrate the world of beautiful people. Merchant is joined by Christine Woods as Jessica, Nate Torrence as Wade, Kevin Weisman as Kives and Kyle Mooney as Rory, a circle of friends and acquaintances who orbit his romantic misadventures. Each of the eight half-hour episodes is built from concrete situations: nightclub door policies, awkward first dates, and social gatherings where Stuart's bravado collapses under scrutiny. The engine is simple and painful, a man who wants desperately to be accepted by a glamorous crowd and cannot read the room. The tone is cringe-prone and sharply observed, with an uncomfortable intimacy that rewards viewers who enjoy the squirm. Its single season was a brisk, self-contained run, and its sensibility will appeal to fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras and Insecure, who appreciate awkward Los Angeles comedy built on social embarrassment.
