## Synopsis

Aria (2005-2008) is a Japanese animated science fiction slice of life series produced by Hal Film Maker and broadcast on TV Tokyo. Set in the early twenty-fourth century, it follows Akari Mizunashi, an apprentice Undine, as she trains to become a professional gondolier in Neo Venezia, a flooded city on a terraformed Mars that has become a tourist destination for visitors seeking rest and relaxation. Akari's engine is simple and personal: she wants to master her craft and become a skilled guide, and each episode is built from small obstacles, everyday lessons, and encounters with the travelers and fellow Undines who share her working world. Her fellow trainees and mentors give the show its warm ensemble, and the voice cast anchors the characters through a run of fifty-two episodes across three seasons. The storytelling is gentle and episodic in spirit, moving at a patient pace where the pleasure lies in the textures of canals, sunlight on water, and the rhythm of daily work. Its tone is wistful, hopeful, and soothing, with a quiet nostalgia for traditional craft set against a future that feels unhurried and kind. Viewers who love Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Mushishi, and Laid-Back Camp will find the same comforting register here, a futuristic slice of life built on gentle growth and beauty.
