## Synopsis

Beyblade (2001-2003) is a Japanese animated shonen series created for TV Tokyo, produced with Madhouse, and built around a toy-based tournament format. Thirteen-year-old Takao Kinomiya (voiced by Motoko Kumai) leads the Bladebreakers, a team that includes Kai Hiwatari (voiced by Urara Takano), Max Tate (voiced by Ai Orikasa) and Rei Kon, with the team's resident genius Kenny helping with technical support. Their goal is to become the greatest Beybladers in the world, and the engine of each episode is a spinning-top battle in which teammates and rivals launch their blades and summon the powerful spirit creatures called BitBeasts. The show runs three seasons and roughly 154 episodes, with each season moving the team through a larger and more dangerous tournament circuit. Its tone is energetic, earnest and playful, with a strong emphasis on rivalry, loyalty and team friendship. Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon and Eyeshield 21 will find the same kid-friendly competitive spirit, bright battle spectacle and escalating tournament structure in this series.
