## Synopsis

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (2013) is a Japanese anime science fiction series produced by Production I.G with Bandai Visual, Nitroplus and Good Smile Company, aired on TOKYO MX. Its protagonist is mecha pilot Ledo, voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, who is accidentally warped out of an inter-galactic war into a space-time he and his onboard artificial intelligence do not recognize. Amy, voiced by Hisako Kanemoto, and Captain Fairlock, voiced by Hideaki Tezuka, are among the residents of the planet who shape his new life. The engine of the thirteen-episode run is Ledo's struggle to make sense of a civilization that speaks an unknown language, uses inferior technology and lives on naturally breathable air, while he tries to find his place among its people. Episodes unfold as a serialized adventure in which trade voyages, shipboard routines and encounters with unfamiliar cultures carry the story forward. The tone blends wonder at a verdant world with a wistful sense of displacement and gentle humor. Fans of Macross Frontier, Star Blazers and Firefly will find resonance in its mix of military mecha action and hopeful outsider storytelling. The series is set in a far-future space setting with an invented calendar, and it stands as a single season that remains unfinished.
