## Synopsis

Hotel Adlon (2013) is a German national-television historical family saga miniseries created by Oliver Berben for ZDF. Following the construction and history of the famous Adlon hotel in Berlin, the three-episode, ninety-minute story watches events unfold through the eyes of Sonja Schadt, the youngest member of the fictional, wealthy Schadt family, whose lives are closely bound to the Adlons. Played by Josefine Preuß and Rosemarie Fendel, Sonja serves as the observer at the center of the narrative, while Heino Ferch plays Louis Adlon and Marie Bäumer plays Hedda Adlon, anchoring the hotel's ambitions and private rivalries. Anja Kling, Wotan Wilke Möhring, and Katharina Wackernagel add further principal threads among the families. The drama moves through decades of Berlin society, with the hotel as a stage where personal loyalties and friendships are tested against the upheavals of world war and political change. The tone is sweeping and melancholic, with lavish period detail and a measured, character-driven pace. Fans of Downton Abbey, Babylon Berlin, and Generations of War will find resonance in its grand, historically grounded storytelling.
