## Synopsis

Shtisel (2013-2021) is an Israeli scripted family drama series created by Ori Alon and Yehunatan Indorski, a quietly observant character study with a warm, wry register. Akiva Shtisel (Michael Aloni) is a young ultra-Orthodox man in Jerusalem's Geula neighborhood whose widowed father Shulem (Doval'e Glickman) sits with him on a small balcony, the two bickering and reconciling after the mother's death. The engine of the show is Akiva's cautious courtship of Elisheva Rothstein (Ayelet Zurer), a romance that must pass through matchmaking meetings, family objections and the rules of religious custom, while sisters, cousins and neighbors press their own claims on his life. Each episode is built from ordinary domestic moments: weddings, shiva visits, business dealings at a family shop, and small disputes over money and obligation. Across three seasons and thirty-three episodes it moves at an unhurried, contemplative pace, grounding its emotion in faith, grief and loyalty rather than spectacle. Its atmosphere is intimate and tender, with humor drawn from the characters' own stubbornness. Fans of Unorthodox and This Is Us will find resonance in its portrait of family bonds under strain. Shtisel is a Keshet production remembered as a landmark of Israeli television.
