## Synopsis

Squidbillies (2005-2021) is an American adult animated comedy created by Jim Fortier, Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis for Adult Swim. Its protagonists are the Cuyler family, impoverished anthropomorphic mud squid hillbillies scraping by in the Appalachian mountains of Georgia. The engine of the show is simple: the family chases money, schemes and small pleasures, and each short episode stumbles into a new absurd misadventure with the local law, rival critters and the family's own bad judgment. The series ran for many seasons as a largely episodic run of crude comedy, with recurring characters and running gags rather than a tightly serialized plot. Its tone is deadpan, irreverent and surreal, with a rough cartoon look that lampoons southern rural stereotypes. Viewers who enjoy the crude absurdity of Aqua Teen Hunger Force or the satirical edge of King of the Hill will find a familiar blend of bluntness, silliness and adult satire here, delivered in brisk, short bursts.
