## Synopsis

My Bride is a Mermaid (2007) is a Japanese animated romantic comedy anime series broadcast on TV Tokyo and produced by GONZO. Teenager Nagasumi Michishio (voiced by Takahiro Mizushima) is rescued from drowning by the young mermaid Sun Seto (voiced by Haruko Momoi), and to avoid being executed by her merman yakuza father, he must agree to marry her. The engine of the show is the scramble to keep his secret and survive a household of eccentric suitors, rivals and family members, with each episode built around escalating misadventures and gags. Its single season runs twenty-six episodes in a contemporary Japanese coastal setting. The tone is breezy and absurd, mixing romantic awkwardness with crime-family parody and playful slapstick. Fans of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Ranma and Love Hina will find a similar blend of supernatural romance and comic chaos. Viewers who enjoy light, offbeat anime comedies with a strong central premise will find this an easy, undemanding watch.
