## Synopsis

Emergency! (1972-1979) is an American national-television medical drama series created by Harold Jack Bloom, Robert A. Cinader and Jack Webb for NBC. Its paramedic team at Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 51 is built around John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe), who race to dispatch calls across the city while Rampart Hospital staff, led by Dixie McCall (Julie London) and Dr. Kelly Brackett (Robert Fuller), wait to receive the injured. The engine of the show is the call itself: a crash, a collapse, a childbirth gone wrong, each arriving as a self-contained emergency that must be stabilized and transported before the next one begins. Across seven seasons it runs as a long episodic series in which order barely matters, and the firehouse and hospital give it a steady, familiar rhythm. The tone is earnest, warm and brisk, with a sense of quiet competence rather than melodrama. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, it has a grounded civic realism that recalls the Jack Webb procedural tradition. Fans of Adam-12, ER and Rescue 911 will find resonance in its blend of public service and rescue drama.
