## Synopsis

The Out-Laws (2012) is a Belgian Flemish comedy-drama series created by Malin-Sarah Gozin for VTM. Five sisters bound together since the death of their parents form a tight family clan, until the eldest-to-marry, Veerle Goethals (Kristine Van Pellicom), weds a devilish husband. Her sisters Eva (Barbara Sarafian), Birgit Bibi (Ruth Becquart), Rebekka Bekka (Maaike Neuville) and Goedele Goele (Inge Paulussen) see the newcomer as the source of all their misery, and they scheme to get rid of him. Each episode is built from the sisters' domestic friction, their hatching of schemes and the awkward dealings with the in-laws who keep crossing their path. The show is a single season of ten fifty-minute episodes, a contained and self-enclosed run. Its tone mixes bickering humor with genuine sibling affection and a note of family grief, giving it a warm, breezy register. Fans of Keeping Up Appearances, Arrested Development and Gilmore Girls will find resonance in its sharp family dynamics and its clan loyalties.
