## Synopsis

High School of the Dead (2010) is a Japanese animated horror action series created by Daisuke Satou and aired on AT-X, produced by Madhouse. Takashi Komuro (Junichi Suwabe) leads a small band of Fujimi High students, including Rei Miyamoto (Marina Inoue) and Saeko Busujima (Miyuki Sawashiro), after a zombie outbreak overruns their town. The engine of the series is simple and relentless: Takashi must unite the survivors, scavenge supplies and find a way out while the horde closes in around their school. Each episode is built from scrambled escapes, improvised weapons, and tense standoffs with the undead, all filtered through the hormones, rivalries and bonds of teenagers. The single twelve-episode season is a brisk, gory run that alternates bloody action with fan-service-heavy comedy. Set in a present-day Japanese city turned into a post-apocalyptic nightmare, the show has a gleeful, excessive tone and a grim survival core. Fans of The Walking Dead and Rise of the Dead will find a familiar pleasure in its ensemble outbreak drama, while those craving the gory energy of anime horror will feel at home.
