## Synopsis

Klondike (2014) is a Canadian-American historical western miniseries created by Paul T. Scheuring, Rachel Abramowitz and Simon Cellan Jones for Discovery. Richard Madden plays Bill Haskell, a restless young man who travels with his childhood best friend Byron Epstein (Augustus Prew) to the gold rush capital of the untamed Yukon Territory in the late 1890s. Their engine is simple and brutal: stake a claim, survive the cold and the sheer distance, and avoid the desperate people who want the same fortune. Abbie Cornish plays Belinda Mulrooney, a formidable figure in the rough frontier economy, while Tim Roth and Ian Hart add menace as schemers chasing profit. The three-episode run is a single continuous story told across feature-length installments, with each episode built from harsh weather, dangerous claims, and shifting loyalties. Set in a boomtown on the edge of the map, the series balances adventure with a grim look at greed and the displacement of native communities. Its tone is gritty, melancholic and visceral, with a wide-open landscape that makes human ambition feel small. Fans of Deadwood and The Revenant will find resonance in its harsh frontier textures and morally compromised characters.
