## Synopsis

Ihmebantu (2009) is a Finnish black humor sketch series created by Tommi Korpela and Jani Volanen for Yle TV1. Its seven short episodes, each around 28 minutes, are built from standalone sketches rather than a continuing storyline, so viewers can dip into any episode without losing the thread. The cast, led by Korpela and Volanen alongside Kari Hietalahti, Elina Knihtilä, Pirjo Lonka and Jukka Rasila, plays a rotating gallery of characters, each sketch carrying its own premise. The engine of the show is the sudden collision of ordinary Finnish life with death, aging, media manipulation and playground cruelty, pushed into surreal and absurd territory until the situation tips into discomfort and laughter. Its tone is deadpan, uneasy and playful, with a dark edge that treats mortality as a punchline and social embarrassment as a stage. Set in contemporary Finland, the show has the spare, low-budget look of early 2000s television sketch work. Fans of Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Mighty Boosh and Inside No. 9 will find resonance in its willingness to let absurd logic run until it turns uncomfortable. Its short runtime makes it an easy watch for anyone curious about Nordic sketch comedy.
