## Synopsis

Don't Mess with the Angel (2008-2009) is a Mexican telenovela created by Delia Fiallo for Univision and Las Estrellas, a Televisa production. The story follows Marichuy (Maite Perroni), an orphan who, after running away from an orphanage as a teenager, scrapes together a living while nursing deep resentment toward men after a violent attack. Her path crosses that of Juan Miguel San Román (William Levy), a man from a wealthy family whose world could not be further from hers. Supporting principals include Helena Rojo as Cecilia Santos de Velarde, Laura Zapata as Onelia Montenegro, and Nailea Norvind as Viviana Mayer, whose family ties and rivalries pull the lovers in opposing directions. The engine of the series is a romance that must survive class barriers, family schemes, and the heroine's own wounds, unfolding through a single long run of 194 hourlong episodes. Each chapter is built on reversals, secret identities, and confrontations between rich and poor households, all delivered in the heightened melodramatic register of a classic soap opera. Its tone swings between tender longing and sharp suffering, with an emphasis on emotional stakes over realism. Fans of Betty la Fea, Rosalinda and Pasión de Gavilanes will find the same blend of class romance and operatic drama here.
