## Synopsis

Omar (2012) is a Qatari and Saudi historical drama series created by Walid Seif for Qatar TV and MBC 1. Across a single season of 31 episodes, each running about 42 minutes, it dramatizes the life of Omar Bin Al-Khattab (Samer Ismail), the second caliph and Commander of the Faithful, through his pivotal role in the early Islamic state. Ghassan Massoud plays Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, the companion whose authority shapes the community's first succession, while Mehyar Khaddour takes on the military commander Khalid ibn al-Walid and Mai Skaf plays Hind bint Utba, a figure from the old Meccan order. The engine of the story is the slow, deliberate building of a new state: councils and rival tribal claims, battlefield campaigns across the desert, and the moral weight of leadership under divine mandate. Each episode moves through negotiations, skirmishes and sermons in the seventh century Arabian Peninsula. The register is solemn and reverent, with epic landscapes and an emphasis on faith, justice and sacrifice. Fans of The Crown, Marco Polo and Vikings will find resonance in its large-scale period canvas and its focus on power at the centre of a founding history.
