## Synopsis

Dracula (2013-2014) is an American gothic period horror series created by Cole Haddon and Daniel Knauf for NBC. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays the immortal title character, who arrives in late nineteenth century London posing as an American entrepreneur eager to bring electricity and modern science to Victorian society. His plan is to take revenge on those who cursed him centuries earlier, but his scheme unravels when he becomes infatuated with Mina Harker (Jessica De Gouw), a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Jessica De Gouw, Katie McGrath as Lucy Westenra, and Thomas Kretschmann as Abraham Van Helsing anchor a ten-episode single season that moves between candlelit drawing rooms, secret society meetings and the dark streets of London. The engine of the show is the tension between cold calculation and an old, consuming desire, with each episode weaving manipulation, bloodshed and social scheming around the protagonist. The result is a brooding, seductive and sometimes lurid take on the classic legend, with a sensual Victorian atmosphere and a restless sense of danger. Fans of Penny Dreadful, Interview with the Vampire and Moonlight will find similar resonance in its gothic romance and immortal antihero.
