## Synopsis

The Lone Gunmen (2001) is a short-lived American spinoff series created by Chris Carter, Vince Gilligan, Frank Spotnitz and John Shiban for FOX. Spun out of The X-Files, it follows the conspiracy-obsessed computer hackers John Fitzgerald Byers (Bruce Harwood), Melvin Frohike (Tom Braidwood) and Richard Langly (Dean Haglund) as they strike out on their own. Joined by Jimmy Bond (Stephen Snedden) and Yves Adele Harlow (Zuleikha Robinson), the trio takes on jobs that drag them into corporate and government intrigue, with each episode built around a new scheme that tests their brilliance against their own bumbling. The thirteen episodes of its single season play like a misguided Mission Impossible team, mixing caper structure with the paranoid mythology of its parent show. The tone is playful and breezy, with a comic streak that undercuts the shadowy plots without abandoning them. Fans of The X-Files, Mission: Impossible and Chuck will find resonance in its blend of conspiracy, gadgetry and self-deprecating humor. Its tenure was brief, and the series was canceled before its story could be fully told.
