## Synopsis

Believe (2014) is an American science fiction drama created by Mark Friedman and Alfonso Cuarón for NBC. Jake McLaughlin plays Willam Tate, an ex-convict sprung from prison and assigned to shepherd a gifted young girl, Bo Adams (Johnny Sequoyah), whose telekinetic power makes her the prize of dangerous hunters. Delroy Lindo as Dr. Milton Winter and Kerry Condon as Dr. Zoe Boyle add scientific weight to the story, while Kyle MacLachlan as Roman Skouras brings a sly menace to the corporate and government forces circling the pair. The engine of the series is a wary partnership: the protagonist wants to get back to a life he has lost, the girl wants safety and a sense of normal, and every episode pulls them into a new pursuit by agencies that treat her gift as a weapon. Told in a single thirteen-episode season, the show is a serialized sci-fi thriller with a grounded, urban texture and a tense, earnest register. Its mood blends paranoia with tenderness as trust grows slowly between two damaged people. Set in present-day America, it sits in the vein of Heroes and The Gifted for fans of gifted-youth conspiracy stories, and it was canceled before its central mystery was fully unpacked.
