## Synopsis

Rick and Morty (2013-present) is an American adult animated science fiction comedy created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland for Adult Swim. Brilliant, self-destructive scientist Rick Sanchez, voiced by Justin Roiland, drags his anxious teenage grandson Morty Smith, also voiced by Roiland, on reckless trips across infinite dimensions in a stolen spaceship. Their adventures pull in the rest of the household, including Jerry Smith (Chris Parnell), Beth Smith (Sarah Chalke) and Summer Smith (Spencer Grammer), whose ordinary suburban lives keep colliding with cosmic danger. Each episode is a self-contained misadventure built from alien planets, bizarre inventions, and pointed satire of science fiction tropes, while running threads about family resentment and trauma give the chaos weight. The register is darkly sarcastic, nihilistic and gleefully crude, with sudden tenderness breaking through the cynicism. Its cheap-looking hand-drawn animation is part of the joke.
