## Synopsis

Cadenas de amargura (1991) is a Mexican telenovela created by Cuauhtémoc Blanco and María del Carmen Peña for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. The story follows Cecilia Vizcaíno (Daniela Castro), an orphaned young woman raised under the control of her cruel aunt Evangelina (Diana Bracho), who resents her and schemes against her. Her gentle aunt Natalia (Delia Casanova) quietly protects her, and Cecilia's romance with Gerardo Garza (Raúl Araiza), already engaged to Sofía (Cynthia Klitbo), draws fierce opposition from his parents and rivals. Cecilia's path is shaped by obstacles from a sprawling cast of families, with Padre Julio (Fernando Luján) tied to a buried past. Across a single run of eighty episodes, the engine is a steady accumulation of betrayals, rival love affairs, and buried secrets. Set in contemporary Mexico of the early nineties, it is a classic melodramatic serial built on emotional confrontation, inheritance disputes, and sacrifice. Its tone is heightened and sentimental, with a high-stakes theme of family loyalty against greed. Fans of La usurpadora, Rosalinda, and Mi pecado will find resonance in its soap opera intensity and romantic suffering.
