## Synopsis

The Stray Cat (2014) is a Mexican telenovela created by Inés Rodena for Las Estrellas. Esmeralda, a girl known to everyone as The Stray Cat, grows up in wretched conditions yet carries a special sweetness and charm that draws people to her. Her closest friend is Pablo, a wealthy boy who defends her against the teasing of other children, and their bond becomes the emotional center of a story where affection must cross the walls of class. Maite Perroni plays Esmeralda and Daniel Arenas plays Pablo, with Laura Zapata, Manuel Ojeda, Jorge Poza and Erika Buenfil filling out a large principal cast of rivals, benefactors and family members. Told across a single season of 122 episodes, the series unfolds as one continuing melodrama, with each hour built from romantic entanglements, misunderstandings and social obstacles. Its register is warm, sentimental and heightened, with a soap opera rhythm that rewards viewers who enjoy emotional reversals. Fans of Betty la Fea, Rebelde and Marimar will find the same blend of humble heroine, class tension and devoted melodrama that defines the form.
