## Synopsis

La Malquerida (2014) is a Mexican telenovela produced by José Alberto Castro for Televisa and broadcast on Las Estrellas. Adapted from the Spanish stage play by Jacinto Benavente, the series stars Victoria Ruffo as Cristina, with Ariadne Díaz as Acacia, Christian Meier as Esteban, and Brandon Peniche as the scheming Manolo. Its engine is a tangle of forbidden attraction and family loyalty inside one household, where secrets, rival claims and jealous schemes push each chapter toward its next confrontation. The series runs as a single serialized season of 117 episodes, each forty-five minutes long, so the story unfolds gradually and rewards viewers who follow the long arc. Its tone is melodramatic and emotionally heightened, with tearful reconciliations, bitter rivalries and suspenseful reversals anchoring a soap opera sensibility rooted in Latin American traditions. The setting is a provincial Mexican milieu rendered with the conventions of classic television melodrama. Fans of Cuna de lobos, Rosalinda and Pasión de gavilanes will find the same intense passions and dynastic domestic drama.
