## Synopsis

Marco Polo (2014-2016) is an American historical drama series created by John Fusco for Netflix. Lorenzo Richelmy plays the explorer Marco Polo, a young Venetian who finds himself at the lavish court of Kublai Khan, played by Benedict Wong, a ruler whose empire stretches across Asia. Joan Chen portrays Empress Chabi, a formidable power player whose rivalry with other courtiers drives much of the palace scheming, while Remy Hii and Zhu Zhu add dynastic and romantic tangles to the mix. Marco must earn trust in a world of greed, betrayal and sexual intrigue, navigating factions that want him as an ally, a pawn or a threat. Each season is a continuing serialized story across ten episodes, built from court maneuvering, military campaigns and shifting alliances across the thirteenth century. The tone is sumptuous and sensual, with sweeping battle sequences balanced against intimate scheming in silk-draped chambers. Fans of Game of Thrones, Rome and The Tudors will find resonance in its blend of epic scale and palace politics. The series was canceled after two seasons, leaving its story unfinished.
