## Synopsis

Gotham (2014-2019) is an American network crime drama created by Bruno Heller for FOX, a comic book prequel to the Batman mythology. Ben McKenzie plays rookie detective James Gordon, who is determined to stay honest while navigating a Gotham police department and mob families that secretly run the city. Donal Logue plays his hard-bitten partner Harvey Bullock, while David Mazouz appears as the young Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, and Robin Lord Taylor as the rising Oswald Cobblepot. The engine of the series is Gordon's push to clean up a city where every case leads back to powerful criminals, and each season builds through turf wars, murder investigations and gangland schemes that gradually shape the characters who will later become iconic villains. Across five seasons the show moves between standalone cases and a continuing arc of rising ambition and moral compromise, giving it the feel of a serialized comic book saga. Its tone is moody and pulpy, with noir-tinged urban atmosphere, operatic violence and a sense of dread that never quite lets go. Fans of Smallville, Daredevil and The Wire will find resonance in its blend of superhero mythology and grounded corruption drama.
