## Synopsis

Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) is a Japanese animated science fiction series produced by ARMS, YTE, VAP, GENCO and Artland and aired on TOKYO MX and other channels. It runs thirteen episodes as a single season, with a 24-minute runtime. Ryota Osaka voices Ryouta Murakami, a young man who as a child was friends with a girl he called Kuroneko, and who blames himself after her death in an accident while she was trying to prove aliens exist. Risa Taneda voices Neko Kuroha, a new transfer student with mysterious powers who looks strikingly like Kuroneko. Aya Suzaki voices Kana Tachibana, one of the principal figures drawn into his obsessive quest. The engine of the series is Murakami's determination to uncover the truth behind alien existence, as the mystery around the new student deepens and the cost of his pursuit grows. Each episode advances a single serialized investigation rather than standing alone. The show is set in a present-day Japanese school milieu, with a shadowy, unsettling mood. Its tone blends eerie mystery, emotional guilt, and action, with a darker edge than typical teen anime. Fans of Higurashi When They Cry, Angel Beats! and Chaos;Head will find resonance in its supernatural secrets and teenage melancholy.
