## Synopsis

Chaika - The Coffin Princess (2014) is a Japanese animated fantasy adventure series created for TOKYO MX and other regional broadcasters, produced by the studio BONES and adapted from a light novel. Retired soldier Toru Acura (voiced by Junji Majima) is a twenty-year-old drifting through life after a war, until he meets Chaika Trabant (Chika Anzai), a fourteen-year-old sorceress who carries a mysterious coffin. Toru follows her, hoping to find meaning again, and the two travel alongside his adopted sister Akari (Yuuko Hara), whose work keeps the group fed. The engine is episodic: each stop brings a new encounter, a new threat or a new quarrel over money and loyalty, while the coffin's secret slowly surfaces. The series runs for two seasons across twenty-two episodes of about twenty-five minutes each. Its tone mixes light comedy with grim, violent flashes that recall the aftermath of war. Viewers who enjoy Spice and Wolf, Mushishi and Log Horizon for wandering fantasy journeys with warm companionship will find resonance here.
