## Synopsis

The Irregular at Magic High School (2014-present) is a Japanese animated fantasy series produced for TV Tokyo and regional broadcasters, adapted from a light novel. Siblings Tatsuya Shiba (Yuichi Nakamura) and Miyuki Shiba (Saori Hayami) enroll at a magic high school where Miyuki's honors standing divides her from her older brother, who is ranked among the underachievers. Angelina Kudou Shields (Yoko Hikasa) and Erika Chiba (Yumi Uchiyama) round out the principal cast. The engine of the show is a steady stream of school incidents, rivalries, and magical contests, in which Tatsuya's hidden abilities keep surfacing and pulling him into problems his classmates cannot solve. Each episode is a self-contained school story that builds into a longer, slowly advancing arc across three seasons and fifty-two episodes. Set in a near-future Japan with futuristic military undertones, the tone is light, breezy, and comforting, with a relaxed sense of fun and a dash of romance. Fans of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Re:Zero, and Sword Art Online will find similar pleasures in its magic-school setting and power fantasy.
