## Synopsis

Life Below Zero (2013-present) is an American reality documentary series broadcast by National Geographic. Viewers follow six self-reliant residents of remote Alaska through the long winter, including Sue Aikens, who lives more than 300 miles from her nearest neighbor, and Eric Salitan (Erik Salitan), who survives only on what he hunts and forages. Other principal figures include Chip Hailstone and Agnes Hailstone (Agnes Hailstone), a couple who catch fish to barter for supplies, and Andy Bassich and Kate Rorke-Bassich (Kate Rorke-Bassich), who rely on a team of sled dogs for transportation. The engine of each episode is the daily struggle to stay one step ahead of brutal storms, frozen rivers, and dangerous animals while preparing for spring. Across twenty-three seasons and roughly 240 episodes, the show unfolds as a continuing, unscripted record of seasonal hardship rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is quiet, patient, and observational, with moments of tension and genuine resourcefulness. Fans of Alone, Man vs. Wild, and Alaska: The Last Frontier will find resonance in its raw frontier realism.
