## Synopsis

My Love from the Star (2013-2014) is a South Korean romantic comedy series created by Park Ji-eun and Jang Tae-yoo for SBS. Kim Soo-hyun plays Do Min-joon, an alien who has lived quietly on Earth for four centuries and is nearly able to return to his home planet, and Gianna Jun plays Chun Song-yi, a famous actress whose life he unexpectedly enters. Park Hae-jin, Yoo In-na and Shin Sung-rok fill out the principal cast as figures tangled in the couple's glamorous and increasingly dangerous orbit. The engine of the show is simple and sweet: Min-joon must hide his superhuman strength and his otherworldly past while deciding whether his chance to go home is worth giving up the woman he has come to love. Across a single run of twenty-one hour-long episodes, the story alternates lighthearted domestic comedy with suspense and crime threads, so the romance carries the weight while the plot keeps pressure on it. Set in present-day Seoul, the series moves through the glitz of the entertainment industry, the rivalries of celebrity life and the everyday comedy of a man who does not quite understand human customs. Its tone is breezy, warm and wistful, with a bittersweet undertow about sacrifice and belonging. Fans of Goblin and Descendants of the Sun will find the same blend of fantasy, romance and cosmic longing, and the show is a defining example of a Korean romantic comedy.
