## Synopsis

Tyrant (2014-2016) is an American political drama series created by Gideon Raff for FX. Adam Rayner plays Barry Al Fayeed, the younger son of a dictator who ends a twenty-year self-imposed exile to return to his war-torn Middle Eastern homeland for his nephew's wedding, bringing his American wife Molly (Jennifer Finnigan) and their children with him. Moran Atias plays Leila and Ashraf Barhom plays Jamal, two relatives whose loyalties pull against the regime's dynastic power. The engine of the show is the collision between a comfortable Western household and the palace politics of his youth: Barry wants to keep his family safe and out of the fight, yet he is repeatedly drawn into the uprising, the court intrigue and the assassinations that surround his father's rule. Each season is built from tense family confrontations, political maneuvering and shifting alliances across a three-season serialized run of thirty-two episodes. Set in a fictional Arab nation, the atmosphere is claustrophobic and dread-filled, with a prestige cable register of political thriller and personal melodrama. Viewers who enjoy Homeland, Succession and other serialized dynasty dramas will find resonance in its layered loyalties and moral compromise.
