## Synopsis

You're the Worst (2014-2019) is an American cable romantic comedy series created by Stephen Falk for FX and FXX. Narcissistic novelist Jimmy Shive-Overly (Chris Geere) and cynical publicist Gretchen Cutler (Aya Cash) meet at a wedding, go home together, and begrudgingly start a relationship neither believes in. The engine of the show is their constant self-sabotage: each wants to keep life uncommitted while the other threatens to pull them into something real. Their friends, struggling musician Edgar Quintero (Desmin Borges) and Lindsay Jillian (Kether Donohue), a woman stuck in a rocky marriage, supply their own messy subplots, so episodes unfold as sharp, caustic scenes of bad behavior punctuated by sincere emotional moments. Across five seasons of thirteen-episode arcs and one ten-episode opener, the series follows a serialized arc rather than standalone stories. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, it has a breezy, irreverent, sardonic tone with a surprisingly candid look at depression. Fans of Fleabag, Girls and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will find resonance in its prickly honesty and its refusal to make its leads likable.
