## Synopsis

Black Jesus (2014-2019) is an American adult animated-free live action satirical sitcom created by Aaron McGruder for Adult Swim. Gerald Slink Johnson plays Jesus, who lives in present-day Compton, California, on a daily mission to spread love and kindness through the neighborhood. He is accompanied by a small but loyal circle of downtrodden followers, including Trayvon (Andrew Bachelor), Fish (Andra Fuller), Maggie (Kali Hawk), and Boonie (Corey Holcomb), while Lloyd (John Witherspoon) and Vic (Charlie Murphy) add further friction. Each episode is a standalone case built around everyday neighborhood frictions, with Jesus's sincere good intentions colliding with the cynicism, hustles, and hypocrisy of the people he tries to help. The show runs three seasons and thirty-one episodes in a brisk, quick-witted format. Its sharp, irreverent comedy mixes social satire with warmth and absurdity, and its biting take on race, religion, and urban life lands in the spirit of Atlanta, South Park, and Preacher. Fans of biting, socially pointed sitcoms will find it sharply rewarding.
