## Synopsis

Unite 9 (2012-2019) is a Canadian French-language prison drama series created by Danielle Trottier for ICI Radio-Canada Télé. Widowed mother Marie Lamontagne (Ève Landry as Jeanne Biron in the credits) confesses to a murder she did not commit to shield her daughter, and she is thrust into a brutal, unfamiliar women's prison in Quebec. Her engine is survival first, then the harder task of bonding with fellow inmates and helping them reclaim control over their lives. Principal cast includes Catherine-Anne Toupin as Shandy Galarneau, Geneviève Schmidt as Jessica Poirier, and Salomé Corbo as Caroline Laplante. The series runs seven seasons and 169 episodes of hour-long episodes, following an ongoing serialized storyline across the prison's wings and cell blocks. Its tone is gritty and emotionally charged, mixing harsh institutional realism with moments of solidarity, humor, and hope. Viewers who enjoy Orange Is the New Black and Wentworth will find resonance in its portrait of women's prison life and the bonds formed behind bars.
