## Synopsis

Black-ish (2014-2022) is a US network family sitcom created by Kenya Barris for ABC. Anthony Anderson plays Andre Johnson, a successful advertising executive who worries that his well-off children, including Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and the younger Diane (Marsai Martin), are losing touch with their Black heritage in an upper-middle-class neighborhood where almost everyone else is white. His wife Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) and his father Ruby (Jenifer Lewis) push back against his anxieties, and each episode builds from a domestic situation such as a school event, a holiday or a workplace slight into a sharp comic argument about identity and assimilation. The show runs for eight seasons and is a multi-camera sitcom with a steady rhythm of family banter, broad physical comedy and pointed monologues. Its tone mixes warmth, sardonic wit and earnest comic anxiety, and it occasionally pauses for episodes that confront racism and social issues directly. Fans of Fresh Off the Boat, The Goldbergs and The Cosby Show will find similar pleasures in a family comedy that uses everyday life to examine race and belonging.
