## Synopsis

The Code (2014-2016) is an Australian political drama series created by Shelley Birse and produced by Playmaker Media, with broadcast on ABC TV and BBC Four. Across two seasons of six episodes each, it follows brothers Ned Banks (Dan Spielman) and Jesse Banks (Ashley Zukerman) as they stumble onto information that people at the highest levels of political power are determined to keep buried. Adele Perovic plays Hani Parande, a figure drawn into the unfolding danger, while Sigrid Thornton and Robyn Malcolm appear as women whose loyalties and motives are bound up in the same web of influence. The engine of the show is the strain between sibling loyalty and the fear of what knowing the truth costs, with each episode tightening the net of pursuit and concealment. Its tone is serious and tense, carrying a sober, grounded atmosphere in which private family bonds meet public institutions that will do almost anything to protect themselves. Viewers who enjoy a conspiracy thriller with a human core, in the vein of Scandal and Political Animals, will find a compact, serialized drama with a sharp sense of institutional menace. The series is a short, complete story suited to a single focused binge.
