## Synopsis

Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2011-2013) is a Canadian and American web series created by Kevin Tancharoen, John Tobias, Oren Uziel and Ed Boon for YouTube. Built from the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise, it runs as a set of roughly ten-minute episodes across two seasons, each one a short origin story for a different fighter preparing for the upcoming tenth tournament. Darren Shahlavi plays the mercenary Kano, Samantha Win plays the warrior Kitana, Casper Van Dien appears as Johnny Cage, and Ian Anthony Dale plays Hanzo Hasashi, the figure who becomes Scorpion. The engine of the series is each character's reason for fighting, shown through vengeance, loyalty and personal debt, with the fight choreography carrying most episodes. Its shape is a loose anthology of vignettes rather than one continuous plot, so viewers can jump between fighters. The production is low budget and occasionally rough, but it is energetic, violent and playful in tone, with a fan service feel for longtime players. Fans of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Tekken: Blood Vengeance and the live action Mortal Kombat film will find resonance in its blend of martial arts spectacle and video game lore.
