## Synopsis

Over the Garden Wall (2014) is a United States animated dark fantasy miniseries created by Patrick McHale for Cartoon Network. Two brothers, Wirt (voiced by Elijah Wood) and his younger half-brother Greg (voiced by Collin Dean), find themselves lost in the Unknown, a strange forest adrift in time. Their guides are a wise, weary Woodsman (voiced by Christopher Lloyd) and a foul-tempered bluebird named Beatrice (voiced by Melanie Lynskey), who is sharp-tongued but loyal. The engine of the story is simple and urgent: the boys want only to find their way home, and every stretch of trail brings a new odd village, rival creature, or unsettling encounter that pulls them off course. The ten-episode run is a single continuing journey, each short chapter a self-contained stop along a path that gathers momentum toward the end. Its look is hand-drawn autumnal woodland, all falling leaves, crooked lanterns and dusky moods. Tone-wise it balances whimsical comedy with wistful melancholy and an eerie folk-tale chill. Fans of Gravity Falls, Adventure Time and Labyrinth will find the same blend of odd charm and quiet unease that makes the Unknown memorable.
