## Synopsis

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015-2019) is a Netflix single-camera sitcom created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Ellie Kemper plays Kimmy Schmidt, a woman rescued after fifteen years held by a doomsday cult in an underground bunker, who arrives in New York City determined to build a new life. She shares her world with Tituss Burgess as Titus Andromedon, a flamboyant aspiring Broadway actor and her roommate, and Jane Krakowski as Jacqueline Voorhees, a wealthy socialite whose self-interest tangles with Kimmy's sunny plans. Carol Kane plays landlady Lillian Kaushtupper, rounding out a household of eccentric neighbors. The engine of the series is Kimmy's cheerful refusal to be defined by her captivity, as each episode pits her buoyant optimism against gentrified Manhattan, job hunts, romance and the schemes of people who want something from her. Across four seasons of thirteen-minute-scale comic episodes, the show builds a continuing story around its ensemble. The tone is zany, warm and irreverent, with a bold willingness to mine trauma for laughter. Fans of 30 Rock, The Good Place and Atlanta will find resonance in its absurdist humor, quirky characters and sharp urban satire.
