## Synopsis

The Red Tent (2014) is a two-episode American historical miniseries created for Lifetime, a biblical period drama adapted from the Book of Genesis. Dinah, daughter of Jacob, narrates her own life in an ancient Near Eastern world of shepherds, caravans and sequestered women. Played by Rebecca Ferguson, Dinah is guided through childhood and midwifery by her mothers Leah (Minnie Driver) and Rachel (Morena Baccarin), while Jacob (Iain Glen) courts his four wives. The engine of the story is a young woman's search for belonging in a foreign land, pressed by the rituals of her tribe and the dangers of a city called Shechem. The miniseries moves through the red tent, where women gather through birth, menses and illness, and it lingers on love, kinship and loss. Its tone is sweeping yet intimate, lyrical and melancholic, with an emphasis on female bonds rather than battle. Fans of Rome, The Other Boleyn Girl and the original biblical stories will find resonance in its blend of dynastic history and women's inner lives. Set in the ancient Near East, it is a compact, self-contained story told in just two episodes.
