## Synopsis

Region (2003-2006) is a Russian national-television police comedy series aired on Channel One, a two-season run of twenty-two episodes of roughly fifty-one minutes each. Sergey Bezrukov plays Pavel Kravtsov, a soft-spoken, ambitious yet honest police officer who apologizes while handcuffing suspects, and Leonid Yarmolnik plays Alexander Nesterov, an eccentric psychic whose unusual methods complicate investigations. Tatyana Dogileva, Aleksandr Mokhov and Semyon Morozov round out the local ensemble of villagers and officers. The engine of the show is a city cop exiled to a remote village after his principled style makes him unwelcome in the city force, and each episode is built around a small local crime, a neighbourly dispute or a strange rumour that he must sort out with patience rather than force. The format is a case-of-the-week ensemble rather than a single arc, giving the show a loose episodic rhythm. Set in contemporary post-Soviet provincial Russia, the series unfolds in a rural village where bureaucracy, tradition and eccentric neighbours shape daily life. Its tone is warm, wry and gently absurd, blending deadpan humour with sincere affection for its community. Fans of Northern Exposure, Hamish Macbeth and Longmire will find resonance in its small-town cop comedy and quirky community.
