## Synopsis

Expedition Unknown (2015-present) is an American factual adventure documentary series created for Travel Channel, hosted by Josh Gates, who plays himself. Across eighteen seasons and roughly 168 episodes of 48 minutes each, Gates travels to remote sites around the world to pursue unsolved iconic stories, interviewing local experts, reading old records and testing legends on the ground. The engine of each episode is a question that has resisted answers for centuries: where a lost object might be hidden, whether a legendary place existed, and what evidence survives in archives and terrain. Each episode is largely self-contained, unfolding as a field expedition with a clear goal, obstacles of weather, access and scant documentation, and a closing assessment of what the team could establish. The series is a reality-style documentary built on travel and exploration, with an upbeat, curious and accessible register that balances historical storytelling with the thrill of a hunt. Viewers drawn to host-led investigations, lost treasure, and global history will find its tone resonant, in the vein of Legend Quest and Digging for the Truth. Its run is ongoing, with a consistent, family-friendly appeal across its many seasons.
