## Synopsis

Cucumber (2015) is a British gay dramedy series created by Russell T Davies for Channel 4. Its single eight-episode season is a limited series that follows a circle of gay men in Manchester whose lives tangle around one disastrous date night. Henry Best (Vincent Franklin) anchors the story as an older gay man navigating love and ageing, while Lance Sullivan (Cyril Nri) and Adam Whitaker (Ceallach Spellman) embody the younger friendships and romantic uncertainty around him. Julie Hesmondhalgh and Eleanor Worthington-Cox bring a family thread into the mix, and Con O'Neill adds a sharp counterpoint as Cliff Costello. The engine of the series is the everyday pursuit of connection: first dates that go wrong, friendships strained by secrets, and the pitfalls of desire in a city full of possibility. Each episode is built from sharp, intimate scenes of confession and comic embarrassment, shifting between farce and heartache. The tone is frank, funny, and tender, with a raw, unembarrassed look at sex, identity, and self-discovery. Fans of Queer as Folk, Looking, and Fleabag will find resonance in its candid humour and emotionally bruised honesty.
